This Week’s Favorite Things

May 3, 2018

Here are a few things I’m enjoying this week.

Podcast: My new favorite listen is Satellite Sisters. It’s five sisters, although mainly three do the podcast, who talk about everything from their grandchildren to national security, with an emphasis on supporting each other and other women. They are funny and smart, and it just makes me happy to listen to hem.

Recipes: My husband sent me a link to 23 High-Protein Sheet Pan Dinners That Pretty Much Cook Themselves. I don’t think they cook themselves, but I love a good sheet pan dinner, especially for easy clean up. We tried out the Sheet-Pan Shrimp Boil the other night, and it was yummy. 30-Minute Sheet Pan Potatoes and Chicken Sausage is another go to sheet pan recipe at our house. Book: I just finished Exit West by Moshid Hamid. This book is not a light read, but it’s also not difficult. Two young people fall in love in the middle of a war-torn Middle Eastern country, and this novel is a depiction of how their relationship is affected by living in and then fleeing from this situation. There is a tiny bit of science fiction because in this world people can access other countries through magic doors. Although it’s a hard subject to read about, it’s beautifully written and I really enjoyed it.

TV: I’ve been watching the final season of The Americans, and I can’t wait to see how they wrap everything up. I know some people find this show to be too slow. But I find the idea of this couple, who are simultaneously Russian spies and American, suburban parents, fascinating.
